Cameras Broadcasting

There are several ways to publish camera video streams on a website. Below we describe two practical options: direct MyVMS streaming links and the RTSP.ME broadcasting service.

Broadcasting with MyVMS streaming links

MyVMS video devices can provide video streams in MP4 format by default. The link format below can be used directly, but we recommend getting streaming URLs through MyVMS API requests when possible.

https://IP_ADDRESS:PORT/cameras/CamN/streaming/sub.mp4?authorization=Basic%20AUTH
https://IP_ADDRESS:PORT/cameras/CamN/streaming/main.mp4?authorization=Basic%20AUTH

IP_ADDRESS:PORT — IP address or domain name and port of the MyVMS video device.

CamN — video source number. Numbering starts from 0, so Camera 1 is CamN = 0.

AUTH — username:password encoded as a Base64 string.

For example, for a MyVMS IP camera with IP address 192.168.1.14, using the administrator account without a password:

https://192.168.1.14:9786/cameras/0/streaming/sub.mp4?authorization=Basic%20YWRtaW46
https://192.168.1.14:9786/cameras/0/streaming/main.mp4?authorization=Basic%20YWRtaW46

To create a simple broadcast, place the stream URL inside a standard HTML <video> element.

<video
    src="https://192.168.1.14:9786/cameras/0/streaming/sub.mp4?authorization=Basic%20YWRtaW46"
    controls
    autoplay
    muted>
</video>

Important requirements

  • The video stream should use the H.264 format.
  • The username and password can be decoded from the authorization string.
  • Do not use administrator credentials for public broadcasting.
  • Create a dedicated user with limited access for web broadcasting.
  • Each new viewing session creates a separate outgoing stream and increases network traffic by the stream bitrate.

RTSP.ME broadcasting service

You can also use the broadcasting service of our technology partner RTSP.ME.

You do not need MyVMS devices to use this service. Any IP camera or DVR with RTSP stream support can be used. However, you usually need a public IP address and port forwarding on your network device.

With MyVMS solutions, this network configuration can be simplified because the system is designed to reduce manual router and port-forwarding setup.

Basic service features

  • Audio support and protected broadcasting.
  • Retransmitter mode, where only one stream is taken from the source device.
  • Real login and password are not displayed publicly.
  • Switching between main stream and sub-stream.
