P2P Agent

Securely connect remote cameras to MyVMS without public IP addresses, port forwarding, VPN configuration, or changes to the customer's network.

P2P connectivity is a well-established technology used to make remote devices accessible even when they are located behind routers, firewalls, or NAT.

Instead of exposing the device directly to the Internet, both sides establish secure outbound connections to a rendezvous server. The server identifies the devices, introduces them to each other, and helps establish the connection.

Once the connection is established, the remote device can be accessed through its unique identifier without requiring a public IP address on the camera side.

Depending on the installation, MyVMS can work with the camera through ONVIF or connect directly to its RTSP stream. This makes it possible to use both fully integrated IP cameras and devices that provide only a standard RTSP video stream.

How MyVMS P2P Connectivity Works

01

Unique device ID

Every connected device receives a unique identifier that is used by the MyVMS ecosystem.

02

Secure outbound connection

The device establishes a secure connection to the MyVMS P2P infrastructure from inside the local network.

03

Remote access

MyVMS uses the device ID to locate the remote installation and access cameras connected through ONVIF or direct RTSP stream URLs.

No public IP address is required. Cameras can remain behind NAT, while MyVMS provides secure access to their ONVIF services and RTSP video streams through the P2P Agent.

Option 1: Use MyVMS Bridge

For ready-to-use installations, we developed MyVMS Bridge.

MyVMS Bridge is a compact gateway that connects up to eight IP cameras from a remote local network to the MyVMS Platform through the integrated MyVMS P2P Agent.

Cameras can be discovered and connected through ONVIF, providing access to compatible video streams and device functions. Cameras can also be added directly using an RTSP URL when only the video stream is required or ONVIF is not available.

Connect the Bridge to the customer's network, add the cameras, and use its unique ID to access the installation remotely. There is no need to configure port forwarding, request a static public IP address, or expose cameras directly to the Internet.

This approach is suitable for retail stores, offices, warehouses, construction sites, fuel stations, and other distributed installations. It can be used with different camera manufacturers as long as the cameras support ONVIF or provide an accessible RTSP stream.

Option 2: Integrate the P2P Agent into Your Cameras

Camera manufacturers and OEM partners can integrate the MyVMS P2P Agent directly into their own devices.

We work with your company and camera factory to review the device platform, agree on the integration process, and prepare the P2P Agent for the camera firmware.

Depending on the camera platform and required functionality, the integration can provide access to ONVIF services, direct RTSP streams, or both. This allows the camera to work with the MyVMS ecosystem while continuing to use standard video surveillance protocols.

After integration, your cameras receive native compatibility with the MyVMS P2P infrastructure and can be connected to:

  • MyVMS servers;
  • MyVMS hardware devices;
  • MyVMS cloud servers;
  • OEM solutions based on the MyVMS ecosystem;
  • MyVMS installations using ONVIF or direct RTSP streams.

Customers can install the cameras behind NAT and connect them by their unique device IDs, without additional gateways or complex network configuration.

The result is a camera that can be reached through the MyVMS P2P infrastructure while delivering video and device functionality through familiar industry standards.

Discuss OEM Integration

Designed for Distributed Installations

MyVMS P2P Agent is designed for installations where cameras are located across many independent networks and must be connected to one central surveillance system.

The same infrastructure can combine ONVIF-compatible cameras and devices connected through direct RTSP URLs, allowing different camera models and manufacturers to operate as part of one MyVMS installation.

Remote locations

Connect ONVIF cameras and RTSP streams installed in branches, warehouses, offices, or temporary sites.

Restricted networks

Access cameras without inbound firewall rules or direct exposure of their ONVIF interfaces and RTSP ports.

OEM camera projects

Provide native MyVMS P2P connectivity while retaining support for standard ONVIF and RTSP integrations.
